Kathy Chester, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, operates a private art studio in Mount Juliet,
Tennessee where she has resided since 1982. She also has a teaching studio, which she
has operated for approximately 27 years, specializing in art lessons and
workshops for ages seven and above.
Kathy has always loved to draw but truly began her art adventure in the mid 80’s when she took a local
class under the instruction of Shirley Pharris. Little did she know then what started out to
be a hobby would end up being a fulfilling career. From there she has broadened her studies
and been fortunate to have taken workshops, attended demos, and class
lectures with many talented and nationally known artists such as
Daniel Greene,
Michael Shane Neal,
Barbara Applegate,
Margaret Dyer,
Charles Gruppe’,
Ray Kinstler,
Richard Schmid,
Ovanes Berberian,
Burton Silverman,
Wendy Caporale,
Judith Carducci,
Cedric Egeli, and
Calvin Goodman.
Her mediums include oils, pastels, pencil, and acrylics. She
likes to describe her style as romantic impressionism with a use of color
that is both exciting yet soothing. Her passion for gardening, people, and nature can be visualized in her artwork.
Kathy will accept commissions to paint portraits of people and pets, florals,
still life, and landscapes.
Her classroom style includes one-on-one instruction with each student allowing the use of several
mediums and subjects depending on the student’s interest and ability. Kathy’s instruction includes drawing from
the right side of the brain a technique that allows the student to draw what
they see and not what they think they see. She encourages her students to participate in shows using various
mediums of which they have received numerous awards. Kathy is recipient of the “2009 Artist of the
Year” award given by the Art Alliance in Wilson County.
Her work can be found in many private
collections and has been accepted into juried art shows. She has received many First Place and Best
of Show awards for her paintings and has exhibited her work at one woman
shows at Belle Meade Plantation, Cumberland University, Brentwood Library,
F&M Bank, Wilson Bank, and Floral Expressions in Clarksville, TN.
Her work can also be seen each year at Nashville's Christmas Village,
Nashville Antique and Garden, and Nashville Lawn and Garden shows. Other places she has exhibited include the
Art Event at Lipscomb, Fall into Art at Hendersonville High School, Franklin
Bloom and Garden, Cincinnati Flower Show, Sun Trust Bank, Miriam's Promise,
Franklin Marketplace, and many area restaurants and gift shops.
Kathy has been on the board for the
West Wilson Art Alliance
and is a member of the West Wilson Fine Arts Guild,
Portrait Society of America, and
Tennessee Art League. Her work can be seen on her website,
KathyChesterStudios.com,
and at her studio by appointment.
